An iPhone or iPad on iOS 26. Fights, belts, Sparring, Kata, the heat map and Progress work on all of them. The coach note uses Apple Intelligence, which needs a device that supports it with Apple Intelligence switched on in Settings. Without it, Typekata still scores and charts every fight; only the coach note is missing.
Tap Fight. The keyboard comes up and a word appears above it. Type the word. When the last letter lands, your stickman strikes and the next word appears. You do not need to press return or space between words. A wrong key breaks your combo and costs you health; typos are never inserted, so keep going from where you were. The thin line under the arena is the opponent winding up: finish a word and it resets, let it fill and you take a hit. First to zero health loses.
Yes. On iPad, attach a Magic Keyboard or any Bluetooth keyboard and the software keyboard hides itself, so the arena fills the screen. Every letter arrives the same way. Modifier keys, arrows and Escape are ignored.
That is by design. Typekata uses the real system keyboard so what you practise transfers to everything else you type. The arena and the word are laid out in the space above it. If the keyboard ever disappears mid-fight, tap the arena to bring it back.
It should not: autocorrect, predictive text and smart punctuation are switched off inside a fight. If you see suggestions above the keyboard, you have a third-party keyboard active. Switch to the Apple keyboard for the fight.
The opponent attacks on a timer. Every finished word resets it. At white belt you have six seconds; at black belt about two and a half.
Check Settings, Apple Intelligence and Siri, and make sure Apple Intelligence is on. If you have just switched it on, the model may still be downloading; Typekata checks again after every fight. On a device without Apple Intelligence the coach note is not available, and everything else still works.
Each key is coloured by how often you miss it. Neutral means you miss it less than eight percent of the time; the redder it gets, the more it costs you. Keys with too few attempts stay grey. The three outlined keys are what your next Kata will drill.
Touch and hold your Home Screen, tap the plus in the corner, search Typekata, and add the small or medium widget. It shows your best speed and streak, and tapping it opens the app straight into your next fight.
Settings has an accent grid and an icon grid. Tap a colour to recolour the app; pick a dark or light ground and tap an icon to change it on the Home Screen.
Settings, Reset all progress, removes every fight, belt, streak and key statistic. Deleting the app does the same. Since Typekata never uploads anything, there is nothing anywhere else to delete.
